Pilot scheme in Halesowen for people with back and neck pains
9:00am Thursday 18th March 2010
A PILOT scheme has been launched in Halesowen to allow patients suffering back, neck. muscle or joint problems to refer themselves for physiotherapy instead of having to first see their GP.
Research has shown that self-referral enables patients to access services more quickly and makes them more likely to successfully complete their course of treatment.
The pilot will run for the next 12 months and is available to anyone registered with a Halesowen GP, over the age of 16, who is suffering from a musculo-skeletal complaint.
Patients have to complete a form, available from GP surgeries, pharmacies and libraries in Halesowen or by calling the physiotherapy administration team on 01384 366387, and returning it to the NHS physiotherapy team for assessment.
