Call up for Sandwell girls who have missed out on cervical cancer vaccination
12:49pm Thursday 18th March 2010
TEENAGE girls in Cradley Heath, Rowley Regis and Oldbury who have missed out on the vaccination programme which protects them against cervical cancer are being urged to attend a drop-in clinic.
The Sandwell Primary Care Trust is launched the vacinnation programme in September 2008 for all 12 and 13-year-olds, since when there has been a catch up for girls aged up to 19.
The trust is now asking any 16-19 years-olds, whose date of birth is between September 1 1990 and August 31 1993, who may have left school and still not received their HPV vaccination to come forward.
Sandwell is top of the league when it comes to the roll out of the potentially life-saving programme and from now on all girls in the borough’s schools will be offered the vaccination when they enter year eight at school.
For more information about the clinics call HPV lead at Sandwell PCT Sheila Thomas on 0787 6501421 or visit www.immunisation.nhs.uk/Vaccines/HPV for more information about HPV and the vaccine.
