1:52pm Saturday 20th March 2010

A MURDER investigation is under way after an 18-year-old man who was assaulted in Quinton died last night.

The man was attacked in High Street on Thursday March 18, he returned home following the incident but was later taken to hospital where his condition became critical.

He died after the decision was made to turn off his life support machine last night (Friday March 19).

Three youths, two aged 16 and one aged 17, have been arrested in connection with the incident and are in police custody where they are being questioned.

Police officers remain in the area conducting house-to-house enquiries and providing reassurance to residents.

Detective chief inspector Clare Cowley, from Rose Road police station, said: “We are still appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information to assist the inquiry to come forward.

“High Street is just off the busy Hagley Road West and Quinton Expressway, and so many people would have been in the area passing by at the time.

“We still need to find out exactly what went on that led to the victim sustaining his injuries and we are keen to hear from anyone with information.”

Anyone with information to help the investigation is urged to contact Rose Road CID on 0845 113 5000 or speak to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
