Oldbury church bowling over the over-50s with exercise sessions
12:38pm Friday 27th January 2012

AN OLDBURY church is pulling in the over-50s with regular bowls sessions.
Hope Christian Fellowship Church, Rounds Green, is hoping the bowling session fosters friendships and strengthens the community.
A spokesman for the church said: "As a church we are delighted that we can play a part in this bowling activity. Our church has great facilities and a warm relaxed family atmosphere and we look forward to welcome all who will attend.
"This is a great opportunity for unwinding, having fun and making new friends. It's also a chance to find out what other activities we have to offer so please come and join us.
The sessions are funded by Sandwell Leisure Trust in partnership with Age UK Sandwell.
Lisa Rashid, physical activity officer for Sandwell Leisure Trust, added: “A lot of people don’t realise that an activity such as bowls is considered as a form of physical activity and could add to their recommended 5 lots of 30 minutes of exercise per week.
“It’s also a great way to meet new people and have fun.”
She added: "Sessions are open from beginners to those with a little more experience, so anyone interested is invited to come along, get fit and have fun in a relaxed and informal setting."
The sessions take place every Thursday from 10.30am to 12.30pm at Hope Christian Fellowship Church, St James Road. The next two sessions, Thursday February, 2 and Thursday, February 2, sessions normally cost £2 per person which includes light refreshments.
