Dudley Council plan to alter layout of Halesowen theatre

DUDLEY Council is planning to alter Halesowen Library’s Shenstone Theatre in a bid to make it more accessible to wheelchair users.
The council is appealing for theatre-goers and Halesowen Library users for their views on improvements which will make it easier for visitors to get around a theatre room at Halesowen Library.
The council hopes to reduce the stage size to provide greater space for visitors and to accommodate people with physical disabilities, particularly people who use wheelchairs.
Councillor Adrian Turner, cabinet member for housing, libraries and adult learning, said: “The council regularly reviews how easy it is for people to access our venues and in the case of the theatre room at Halesowen Library; it is evident that we can make improvements which will benefit people. “We do understand the value of having a stage for many of our groups who use it for performances so we will intend to maintain a small staging area but most importantly improve how easy it is for people to move around the theatre.”
The Shenstone Theatre is available to hire by the community and the council is consulting with these groups over the proposals.
