Ladies reach cup final
4:00pm Thursday 11th March 2010
STOURBRIDGE Ladies FC’s fine debut season reached a new peak as they beat Leamington 3-1 to reach the Open Cup final.
Early efforts by Shanice James and Chloe Harris were well saved by the home keeper.
After 17 minutes, the visitors finally made the breakthrough, as Dominique Mckee’s perfectly weighted pass beyond the home defenders allowed Shanice James to race clear and smash the ball home.
Kasey Corbett extended Stourbridge’s lead further after 33 minutes but the hosts pulled one back on the stroke of half-time.
James saw two efforts hit the post early in the second half, before McKee made the game safe as she finished a fine run for Stour’s third.
Delighted boss Scott McKee said: “We started really but then we got a bit complacent and allowed Leamington back into the game.
“But at half time we re-focused and took the game to Leamington.”
