Sorry defeat for Hales
4:00pm Friday 19th March 2010
OLD Halesonians Hockey Club had a disappointing afternoon away at Stratford as they slumped to a 3-1 defeat.
Old Hales started steadily with several attacks into the Stratford half but they were unable to trouble the opposition keeper.
Stratford opened the scoring when a penalty corner strike deflected off charging defender Mark Curzon and into the roof of the net.
Hales fought back and scored a penalty corner of their own when Tom Bulteel flicked the ball past the Stratford keeper from the edge of the D.
But the hosts dominated in the second period and scored twice to seal the win.
The second team fell just short with a second half fightback as they lost a 5-4 thriller with North Staffs.
The game started well with Chris Hardy putting Hales in front but swift counter attacking and poor defensive work on short corners saw them 3-1 down by half time.
With stern words spoken by skipper Chris Perry Old Hales reacted magnificently and bought the game back to 3-3, thanks to a short corner by captain Parry and Ash Greaves.
Staffs then went back in front and added a controversial fifth before Parry set up a thrilling finale with his second.
Old Hales Badgers enjoyed a 5-3 win over Lichfield.
Lichfield turned up with only nine players so as a sign of sportsmanship Old Hales allowed one of their players to play for Lichfield.
Old Hales took the lead when a short corner was delivered by Ash Underhill to Ollie Hale who fired home.
Things got even better with another strike from Underhill and two from Emily Cato gave the hosts a 4-0 half-time lead.
But the visitors pulled two back at the start of the second period, before Cato steadied any nerves by completing her hat-trick.
Old Hales Ladies fought back to beat Kidderminster 3-1.
The ladies trailed by a goal at half-time but Hales dominated the second half, almost scoring with their first attack.
Lauren Shilvock eventually brought them level and the same player put them in front following good work by Ann Smith.
Smith then completed the scoring with a third late on.
