O'Neill battles to third
4:30pm Thursday 9th September 2010
STOURBRIDGE Velo mountain biker Scott O’Neill took third in the final round of the Midland Mountain Bike series.
O’Neill competed in the Expert event at Sherwood Pines on a testing 8km circuit, consisting of a mix of open and single track.
He said: “It was a really tough race, it was a flat out effort from the start which made it really important to stay sharp.
“I’m really pleased with the result as I only moved up through the positions from 5th to 3rd on the final lap.”
Team-mate Chris Taylor took a respectable 11th position in a strong field of veteran racers, a result which has rewarded a season of off-road preparation.
Taylor repeatedly put in sub 27min laps throughout the event at the end of a season which has seen him focus on mountain biking rather than his usual road racing.
Stourbridge Velo is looking forward to the cyclo cross season which starts in the next few weeks and is looking for new riders to join in at the local races. The club can be contacted through their website, stourbridgevelo.com
