Golden moment for Lawrence

YOUNG Halesowen sprinting star Jack Lawrence put in a stunning performance to take gold at the Midland Indoor Championship.

The Halesowen Athletics Club member won the under-17s 60 metres in a time of 7.08 seconds at Birmingham’s National Indoor Arena.

On a fine day for Halesowen athletes, there was also joy for team-mate Hannah Sharkey who grabbed gold in the U17s 800m in a time of two minutes 22 seconds.

Josie Oliarnyk claimed with silver in the U13s quadrathon in which she won the shot and long jump disciplines.

Other Halesowen competitors at the event included Sam Hamilton who took two fourth places in U15 sprint competitions. Sam Preston and Beth Sharkey also just missed out on medals.

Meanwhile, the club’s cross-country runners were in action at Cheltenham’s Pittville Park in the final league event of the season.

Christian Booker was the top Hales runner, finishing in a superb 10h spot.

There were also fine performances from Nic Hazelwood, Tom Kenderine, Daniel Cleary, Mark Hadley and Andy Butler, which was enough to lift Hales one place in the standings as they finished the season in eighth spot.

Julie Dale was the top female competitor from Halesowen, with Sally Spencer and Caroline Lambert also placing high.
